Our Story

Original Woodcraft started with a simple idea: to create high-quality wooden gates that truly fit the spaces people have in their homes. Inspired by our own experience with a baby and a puppy, we needed gates that would work in doorways, staircases, and other tricky spaces.

Many homes have openings that standard shop-bought gates cannot accommodate. Rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution, we believe every gate should be made to suit the space it’s going into. In fact, our first gates were crafted for our 1890s property, where walls were rarely straight.

Today, every gate we make is crafted to order, using your measurements. Whether it’s a narrow doorway, an extra-wide opening, or an unusual space in a caravan or garden, each gate is built to fit perfectly.

Built by a Qualified Joiner

All our gates are handmade by a fully qualified joiner with over 30 years’ experience working with wood. After finishing his day job, he works from a home workshop in Castleford, creating bespoke baby gates, pet gates, furniture, chopping boards, and other wooden pieces.

Woodworking is more than just a job—it’s a passion. Every gate is crafted with traditional joinery skills and careful attention to detail, ensuring a product that is strong, reliable, and built to last for years.

Quality Materials

We use carefully selected woods, including knotty pine, walnut, ash, beech, and oak.

Our most popular option is knotty pine, which is both strong and hard wearing. As a natural material, pine gradually deepens in colour over time, developing a beautiful warm honey tone.

All gates are built with durability in mind, so they remain strong, safe, and reliable for everyday use.
