Custom Build Gates

Our Custom Built Gates are designed for spaces where standard gates simply won’t work. Whether you have an irregular opening, angled staircase, extra-wide area, or a completely unique layout, we can design a gate specifically for your requirements.

Every gate is handcrafted to your measurements by a fully qualified joiner with over 15 years of experience. From concept to final build, the focus is on creating a gate that fits your space perfectly while maintaining strength, safety, and durability.

If it’s made of wood, we can almost certainly make it.

When a Custom Gate is Ideal

Custom gates are commonly requested for:

Extra wide or unusually shaped openings

Sizing and Pricing

All stair gates are supplied at a standard height of 90cm, which is suitable for most stair installations.

Up to 90cm: No extra charge
100cm and above: +£18
Over 160cm width: Custom quote required

Tapered Side Batons: If your opening isn’t perfectly square, we can taper the side batons so the gate fits neatly and securely. This service is available for an additional £18.

All gates are built accurate to within 2mm.

Wood Options

Choose from our premium wood selections:

Knotty Pine
Pine is a beautiful, strong, hard wearing wood. As a natural product, it will gradually deepen in colour over time to a warm honey tone.

Walnut – rich, darker finish
Ash – light, smooth hardwood
Beech – classic pale finish
Oak – strong and highly durable

Other hardwoods may be available upon request depending on the design.

Fixings & Ironmongery

Each gate comes supplied with galvanised hinges already attached, along with a galvanised sliding bolt for secure closing.

For those who prefer a different finish, brass hinges and bolts are available as an optional upgrade for £7. We charge only what we pay for these fittings and do not add any markup.

What can I use it for?

You can use our gates as a baby gate for stairs or garden doors, a toddler barrier, a pet gate, or even a decorative wooden divider. We personally use ours at the back door and at both the top and bottom of the stairs for our 18‑month‑old. Every gate comes with fittings, fixtures, and a bolt or lock included.

Can you adjust the spindle spacing?

Yes. Standard spacing is 2 inches between spindles, but we can adjust this at no extra charge. For example, some customers prefer spacing small enough to stop a baby but wide enough for a cat to pass through.

I’m not confident measuring—what should I do?

Simply measure the width of the opening where the gate will sit and send us that measurement. We’ll make it to that exact size. If you’re unsure, just ask—we’re happy to guide you through it.

Can you make something unusual?

Absolutely. We love a challenge. If it’s made of wood, we’re 99% sure we can make it, no matter how unusual the request.
